1868 Federal United States Land Patent for Wheeler Schofield Mine - Nevada City, California

This original document signified one of the very first transfers of California land from the federal government into the hands of citizens.

This 1868 Federal Land Patent was issued before mining deed/claims existed - which came along about 1872.

This land patent granted Wheeler Schofield legal access to the land and all of the gold that could be mined. The Schofield Mining Deed is still listed as USGS MRDS #10101248 and Mindat.
