Antique Edwardian Inkwell from Great Britain. Large heavy sterling silver inkwell with glass ink barrel inside. Hallmarked with anchor and lion passant and the letter "h" likely indicating London, UK Sterling from 1907 (possibly 1882) by date code "h". Has a sterling silver pen rest in the front. Lid opens and closes properly.
Very heavy at 289 grams including glass bucket. Bottom appears to have some sort of hardened leather, balsa wood or other insert for cover as shown.
I have not attempted to clean it or touch the patina. It is original as received from estate and has a bit of tarnish. I have only cloth-polished the outside and cleaned the glass.
Measures approximately 3.5 inches wide at the base, and approximately 1.5 inches tall. The internal inkwell is approximately 1.25 inches wide inside the cap.
Condition: Overall good mechanical condition, lid opens and closes and seals as it should. Glass bucket goes in and out freely. Cosmetically it does have some dents and dings in it from use. Glass ink bucket appears original, as there is a bubble in the glass, and has been shaved on one side to likely get rid of excess glass drip. Please see pictures.
Perfect gift for your favorite writer or calligraphist.
A great historic investment with today's price of silver.
